“I’m the managing director and founder of Gecko Tours and the proud father of the cutest pigeon in the world. I was born and raised within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace – I may not have quite attained Diocletians emperor status but I do maintain the gardens within the palace. Once I was a sports fanatic and now its just food fanaticism for me. I’m always willing to share details of some of the area’s many peculiarities with tourists and my enthusiams for all things Dalmatian knows no bounds – that’s why I enjoy working in tourism.”
”This time next year, we’ll all be millionaires Rodney.”- Del-Boy, from “Only Fools and Horses”
The youngest member of the Gecko team – Magdalena – Baldo’s daughter. She’s wishing the rain away but doesn’t yet know that Split has on average 2620 sunny hours per year putting it in the top class in the Mediterranean
“I’m a graduate in Tourism Operations and Project Management from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Split. I spent 6 months in Riga, Latvia as part of an Erasmus+ program with Riga Technical University and still look back on this as part of a real life fairy tale. My interests include: meeting different people and cultures, traveling the world, working as a judge at summer night dog shows and making cheeseburgers disappear in a minute and then going on a guilt trip workout.”
‘’The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.’’- Saint Augustine
The Gecko heads for Dubrovnik in one of our fantastic buses fully equipped with WIFI and AC. En-route to Dubrovnik we encounter some amazing scenery.
“I’m an enthusiastic and friendly guide and I love spending my time in nature. I’m always ready to share my knowledge but I’m also eager to learn something new. I believe that we are way more productive when working with people and that a touch of humour can save the day. I obtained a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Russian language and literature at the University of Zadar, but I still love my hometown Split more. My interests and hobbies: history, literature, travelling, music, gaming, meeting new people from other cultures and sharing the experience.”
”It’s a lucky man, a very lucky man, who is committed to what he believes, who has stifled intellectual detachment and can relax in the luxury of his emotions – like a tipsy traveller resting for the night at wayside inn.” – Alexander Pushkin
Duje takes us to the truly fascinating and surprisingly relatively unknown ruins of Salona before heading to Klis castle – a must see for all you GOT fans out there. Then to the ancient City of Trogir …
“I was born and raised in Split, but I’ve lived in other Croatian cities while studying. I obtained a degree in Philosophy at the University of Zadar, and later a Master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Zagreb. My interest include: history, cultural heritage, archeology, post-socialist and transition cultures etc. My hobbies include: riding an old Vespa scooter (and fixing it), playing music, woodworking, and mainly spending quality time with my dear friend Baldo (are you convinced?).”
”It’s so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don’t say it.”- Homer J.Simpson
“I was born and raised in Split but because of my enthusiasm, at the age of 19 I joined a Japanese cruise ship to work and explore new cultures and different nationalities. I’ve travelled all around the world and learnt a great deal about tourists and what interests them as well as visiting many different destinations. I came back to Split and decided to study tourism. My hobbies are learning the Japanese language, travelling and photography”
“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence”
“I was born in Sussex in the UK and studied at Sussex University in Brighton where I graduated in French and Spanish, achieving a masters degree. If these are your languages of choice I’m here to help! As my degree choice may indicate I am fascinated in other cultures and love meeting people from all over the world. My choice of career in the tourist industry therefore plays to my strengths. My hobbies include foreign languages – I’m learning Croatian though some way to go, and enjoying good food and yes some wine …”
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime””
Tessa heads out on Gecko’s rafting tour of the Cetina river before she heads up to the hills above Omis to enjoy some fabulous homemade food and wine in a local homestead
Although I was born and raised in Split I studied and got my Masters degree in history at the University of Zadar. Apart from history my interests are food, music (you are kindly invited to hear my melody below!!!) travelling and meeting new people and cultures. I believe that life is too short to just let it pass by and that you need to actively participate in it. Of course, sometimes you need to relax – in Croatia we call it “fjaka” which means doing nothing but this is for the winter – in the summer its go,go,go!
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw out the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover” Mark Twain
Boris does Krka with some very lively and musical ladies – I think you will agree he’s missed his calling in life!
“I’ve worked as a driver for 47 years. I’ve travelled almost all of Europe. I love my job because I meet new people and go to many places. My favourite hobby is mechanics. In my free time, I enjoy good food, holidays by the sea or a rural retreat. My attitude to my job is the same as to life generally i.e. to perform with dedication and patience and always be ready to help others.”
”Life is a game, play it!” – Mother Theresa

“We are the ‘Anglo’ part of Gecko’s identity and have a long history with this beautiful land that is Croatia. Our vision for this company is to expand the travelling experience beyond that which is obvious and give visitors a more holistic and immersive experience during their time with Gecko. We are incredibly proud of Baldo and his team of passionate, educated and enthusiastic individuals who have a pride in their country and a willingness to share their knowledge.
“For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.”
